Wash the head of the penis. Any soap used must not contain silicone (i.e liquid soap). If you wish, you may want to apply a skin barrier film such as lbf to aid adhesion. Retract the foreskin if uncircumcised, and dry thoroughly.
- Remove the backing paper and position the wafer over the urinary opening so that the smallest petal is away from the body towards the frenulum (ridge of skin under the glans if uncircumcised).
- Avoiding wrinkles, smooth the petals starting with the smallest one, then the opposite two (closest to the body) and finally sweep the two side petals into place. Press gently for 20 seconds. The heat of your hand will help activate adhesion.
- Remove backing paper and place the ‘butterfly’ seal around the petals with the notch over the frenulum . Gently smooth the ‘butterfly’ seal around the glans. Do not stretch it. Press gently for a further 20 seconds.
- Insert the tube into the stem of the wafer. It is important to return the foreskin to its natural position over the ‘butterfly’ seal. The tube connects directly to urine collection systems (i.e. leg bag, night drainage bag).
EASY TO REMOVE
Removal is easy and painless: BioDerm® should be replaced when the hydrocolloid becomes cloudy, or if there are any signs of leakage. BioDerm® slides away easily when soaked in warm water, leaving no sticky residue. Soaking in a bath is an ideal way of removing BioDerm® or wrap a warm, wet cloth around the adhesive area.
BioDerm® is a new and innovative approach to male urinary incontinence care which complements the existing range of incontinence products available.
